wireless in Mexico or other

Hi, I am sorry if this is a weird question, but here goes. For the first
time I am going to go to a big city in Mexico and hopefully there will be
wireless internet in the hotel . I am taking my laptop. Should there be
anything that I shoud be concerned about being that I will be out of country
as far as connectivity goes? will i have to enable something on the pc at
all? This is new to me so thanks for your help and tips.

If you can get a wireless Internet connection at home, you'll be able to
get one in Mexico. You should be able to go to the hotel's website and
see what Internet connectivity they have, and whether or not there will
be a fee. Most hotels will have basic connection directions either on a
card in the writing desk in the room or available from the front
desk/concierge.

If you haven't used wifi with your laptop yet, take a few minutes to
read the User Guide, and learn how to turn on the wifi adapter. Then go
to a nearby Starbuck's and connect there.

To add a bit I suggest setting up the Windows Firewall or whatever firewall
you use on the laptop to block all incoming probes. In Vista set the network
type to 'public' which disables network discovery, file sharing, etc. In XP
configure for "No exceptions". See the latter part of this page for help...

You also might check with your ISP to see if they offer SSL encrypted email.
Some do, some don't. A work around that I sometimes use is to use the free
Mail2Web SSL service while traveling.
