XP not picking up wireless networkHi
The introduction of a new Vista laptop into our network marked the beginning of major connectivity problems on our home wireless LAN, which runs off a Netgear router. Convinced that the router just wouldn't get on with Vista I restored factory settings to the router and re-configured, which ncluded being bale to upload a software update. Vista now works like a dream, but the XP laptp we have on the home network now can't "see" the network, even though my wifi phone and PDA both can (and can connect). I have checked that the hardware is working and it is, so it must be a software issue; however I just can't make any headway on knowledge bases or FAQs, so my question is: can anyone out there help? Andifoz Hi
There few setting points that can cause the Wireless Not to function, and there is Not enough technical info in your post that can pinpoint the trouble. Read these three pages they include most of the info that is needed to configure the Wireless, by reading and checking the system you might find the "Culprit". My Wireless does not work - http://www.ezlan.net/wireless.html Wireless Basic Configuration - http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Config.html Wireless Security - http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Security.html Jack (MVP-Networking). default name is different than the XP default workgroup name Once I did that the connection was a breeze Bill Show quote "Andifoz" <Andi***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:CCEC9657-437D-4DAD-9146-5E2D3BA68B41@microsoft.com... > Hi > > The introduction of a new Vista laptop into our network marked the > beginning > of major connectivity problems on our home wireless LAN, which runs off a > Netgear router. Problem solved; it was actually the Lenovo software that somehow took over the wirelss adapter and turned the radio off. The logical process of woring through the links Jack sent provided me with the structure to get to the nswer! Problem not totally solved! Whilst working throuh the links that Jack sent me, I double-clicked on the wireless network adaptor icon in Device Manager. It launched the Lenovo software (Thinkvantage) that is designed to manage the adaptor and it was discovering the icon at the bottom of the screen (next to Norton, wireless indicator etc) that allowed me to open it and click on "turn radio on", which activated the wireless link. The problem is that this software turns off the wireless radio very quickly, and I still can't manage my connection it through XP's system. How do I restore a default to XP, so that the radio is always on as it should be? Any help would be appreciated!
