corrupt downloadsFor some time, a large percentage of files I download, either from email or
the internet, have been corrupted. The larger the file, the more likely it is to be corrupted. DSL modem, router seem not to be the problem, since the other computer on my home network has no such problems. I am running XP, have an integrated Intel Pro/1000 PL adapter. All drivers, etc., are the latest. This computer is connected by wire to the router, though the problem still exists when I connect by a wireless connection. Any ideas? My email is AT DOT actual address pchuck mvps org. Yes, it works perfectly on the other one, an older computer running XP and
the same basic software. In fact, I've been able to download installation files and other things by downloading them on the old one, then transferring them to the network shared folder, where they work just fine. The main computer is Dell XPS running XP Media Center and is connected by CAT5 cable to router. The other is an older Dell running XP Home, connected by DLink Wireless G USB adapter. It works fine. Software setup is very close to identical including browser and email clients, Symantec AntiVirus (different year versions). The newer one uses the Symantec Firewall, the older just the XP firewall. The older one obviously has less power and speed. The problem has been going on for a while, and only recently a major issue since my parents got broadband and are sending me pictures now, most of which are mangled in one form or another (colors bad, missing parts, etc.) Files copied to my kids using the same software (Thunderbird) using the other computer are transmitte perfectly. Not just email, though. Zip files, program downloads are mostly bad, too, whether I use IE, Firefox, Opera, ftp or html. I've tried different cables, connecting directly to DSL modem, even putting the wireless adapter from the second Computer on the newer one. Still bad files. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks. Everything I
download shows as corrupt using either IE6 Or Firefox. I have taken a flshdrive and dl'd from another computer on the network and then it runs fine on mine. I also am using xp MCE 2005.Any help would be appreciated. I went to another computer and downloaded a
file that only showed on mine as corrupt. When I dl'd it on the other computer, which is on the same network, to a flash drive I took it back to my computer and it worked fine. The big difference between the two computers is mine is running newly installed xp mce 2005 and the other is running xp home. It makes no difference if I download using IE6 or Firefox. I cannot dl' IE7 unless I use the other computer and flash drive approach. HELP TIA Joe Show quoteHide quote "TexasJoe" wrote: > I have this same problem but only with downloads not email.
