setting up home network help neededi am trying to connect to the internet in my room as my friend has the main

Since you said your friend downstair I will take a router with wireless connection, so here are some steps it will apply on wired or wireless connection: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/wireless.mspx Go through your settings and be sure your PC is set up to get Dynamic IP address not set to static or Vice versa if the network been set so.
