Cost of connection to hotmail? or just an explorer 7 problem?Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Service Unavailable', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 87, Error Number: 0x800CCCF0 Error 800: Unable to establish the VPN connection. The VPN server may be unreachable, or security parameters may not be configured properly for this connection. When attempting to connect to my hotmail account these are the errors that come up. Has MSN created a fire wall which will no longer allow me to connect with the server unless I pay money? why do I have the above problems? The only option offered me to connect to my msn hotmail account is to use the wizard which offers only connections which cost $10-$20/month. I had no problem connecting directly with my hotmail account before installing Explorer 7. When I installed the Explorer 7 I could no longer connect to my hotmail account. Must I now pay money to have the connection that I had for free when using explorer 6? I access Hotmail every day with IE7 with no problems.
However, I believe Hotmail is only free if you use Internet Explorer to access it - using Outlook or Outlook Express does cost money. This changed quite some time ago. I have no idea why you're seeing a VPN error trying to connect to Hotmail. Why are you using a VPN, Outlook or OE to read your Hotmail? -- Show quoteHide quoteRichard G. connecting my outlook express to my hotmail account because all was made easily accessible; I could use window to help write and spell and hotmail was continuously automatically accessed and I would get a little note that a email has arrived. I would start my computer and all latest email would be automatically downloaded. I can no longer do that.....why? Show quoteHide quote "Richard G. access because "they" felt that spammers were taking advantage of the service. However, if your "free" account has been active for "years", they still allow you to access the service. My Hotmail account is still available in Outlook and Outlook Express, so far. Richard G. Yes I have had my "free" hotmail account for years and I had easy access to it using my Outlook express. I recently installed IE7 and I think that I lost this free connection. You continue to have the free connection. Have you installed IE7? Have I ended my possibility of a free connection? previous post which seems to describe your problem. It mentioned that there is another KB acticle for a IE7 / Outlook (and OutLook Express) patch. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/904942/en-us seans wrote: Show quoteHide quote > Thank you for the information! > Yes I have had my "free" hotmail account for years and I had easy access to > it using my Outlook express. problem...The truth is that I guess I don't know the simple steps of setting up the connection i.e.-host name, user, password... this was done automatically the first time so I never had to do it. Now I must do it on my own (help from the microsoft wizard only leads to an expensive connection) So....perhaps you know where "the beginner's tutorial on how to make a connection" can be found. I understand, when using the network wizard, hostname: hotmail.com User name: my hotmail address (I.e.- mayn***@hotmail.com) Password: my hotmail password Am I wrong? Where is the tutorial? Thank you for your time and your help. Sean Show quoteHide quote "smlunatick" wrote: > Yes, my free account seems to work well with IE7.
