Hi
Recently updated my SMC wireless AP to a Zyxel router/wireless AP. My PC
found the new network straigtht away and when asked for the WPA key the
network accepted it straight away - great. My laptop, however, finds the
wireless network and I am asked for the key but when I type it is I get the
error "Wireless Configuration - The network password needs to be 40bits or
104 bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or
13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters."
Any help?

Make sure the laptop encryption type is configured for WPA versus WEP. I
suggest using Windows Connect Now (WCN) to configure wireless...

This is where I hit a brick wall. Under the options for the encryption I only
have WEP or none. No WPA (I think it should say WPA-???). I have tried any
number of different XP updates but none seem to add WPA to my list of options.

Any pointers greatly appreciated

You probably need updated drivers for your computer's wireless network card.
Also be sure and check that you don't have both the Windows Wireless Zero
Config service and your network card's configuration program running at the
same time.

Jack (MVP-Networking).
Hi

Wireless hardware from different manufacturers might produce a different Hex
string when using the same ASCII pass phrase.

Generate a Hex String from the pass phrase in the Router, and then copy the
actual string to the Wireless card WPA entry.
