Weird permissions error in simple sharing setup

We have this intermittent problem that seems VERY strange;

There is a shared folder on PC1 that 4 other PC's and their users have full
access to (using Simple File/Print sharing, network users have full access,
can modify/delete, etc.).

For some reason, about 1 out of 10 files that the user of PC1 creates or
modifies (PC1 is a workstation also, not just a server) that are in the
shared folder, other users will get a "acces denied" error when trying to
open it. It's not because the author at PC1 still has it open, its
Properties do not have "hidden" or or any other protection on it, it's not
one particular kind of file (sometimes it's an Excel file, sometimes Word,
sometimes Photoshop, etc.), and the user at PC1 can still open it and modify
just fine.

Now here's the even weirder part; to fix the problem, we discovered that the
PC1 user can just do a copy/paste of the file in Windows Explorer, replace
the original with the copy, and now all other PC users can open it just
fine.

Does anyone know what would cause something like this?

My thoughts are that the problem-files have most likely inherited
filesystem-permissions (as opposed to share permissions) from some other
folder that they were previously in, which had special permissions set on it.
Since filesystem-permisisons may or may not be transferred with the file,
depending on the way in which it's moved/copied, that may be why only some
files are affected.
