Can't browse on one but can on the other?

Hi all,

I have several computers on a lan. When I use the
laptop to get on the Internet with a modem, it works
fine. When I try the same with one of my tower
computer with the same configuration, after the
modem connects I get a DNS error in the browser.
Both machines are XP, both machines are connected
to a lan with hard coded IP addresses, and both
the laptop and the tower are configured with DHCP
on the modem yet the laptop works and the tower
doesn't. When I do a IPCONFIG/ALL on the
tower, it shows the aquired gateway and dns
numbers but when I try to ping yahoo.com I get an
"unknown host:" error. Any ideas on how to fix
the tower so I can browse the Internet on a dialup?

An "unknown host:" message is a name resolution problem.

What's the complete and exact error message??

For more direct help, let's look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net
config server", and "net config workstation", from the problem computer, AND
from 2 other computers, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and
