Hardware: two towers one running xp pro, one win 98 SE, a five port hub, and
network cards, cables.
Problem: when using XP's Admin tools/computer management/connect to another
computer, snap in dialogue box pops up requesting name of computer to connect
to, no computers show in dialogue, after manually inputing name of win 98
computer, message pops up computer "name" not found, name invalid, path not
found. ???
Question: Why is the win 98  pc not recognized by xp's computer
management/connect to another computer process ??
The rest of the network functions, file/printer sharing work fine, both pc's
show up and are accessible from windows explorer from either pc.
Thank You

It's a name resolution problem.  One of the most common causes of this problem
would be a misconfigured or overlooked personal firewall, or other security
component. There are several other possibilities too, and any might be the cause
of your problem. Read this article with an open mind.

Well, you also have to deal with the Windows 9x / NT browser conflict.  More
information later, when my website is back online.  Yes, the articles are
bX-sp4hmm right now.

If you have Windows 9x and NT computers together, you need to look for a browser
conflict (NOT Internet Explorer!) - the Windows 9x and NT browser subsystems
don't work well together.
