USB overriding ethernetI recently had installed a cable modem. I have been trying to hook up a
wired router to my computer & the cable co hooked the modem up by using the USB connection. I have been on the phone with them to trouble shoot it & they led me through it step by step & said my computer isn't recognizing the ethernet port. Can anyone help me figure out how to do it? -- Joetec Hi
In order to use a Wireless Cable/DSL Router the Modem needs an Ethernet output (USB would not do it). Many Cable Modems have both USB and Ethernet if yours have Ethernet output, you have to get a Network cable and connect the modem's Ethernet output to your computer's Network Card. If your computer does not have Network card, you have to install one. If your computer has a Network Card and you need to check the viability of the Card's configuration and its related setting read this, http://www.ezlan.net/debug.html Jack (MVP-Networking). itself then under that it says other devices with a big yellow question mark & under that it says ethernet controller with another big yellow question mark with a yellow exclamation mark in it. I uninstalled it & rebooted my computer but then when it says new hardware has been found I get an error saying it can't find the software to install it. Do you know where I can find that at? -- Show quoteHide quoteJoetec "Jack (MVP-Networking)." wrote: > Hi > > In order to use a Wireless Cable/DSL Router the Modem needs an Ethernet > output (USB would not do it). > > Many Cable Modems have both USB and Ethernet if yours have Ethernet output, > you have to get a Network cable and connect the modem's Ethernet output to > your computer's Network Card. You have to identify who is the card's manufacturer. Almost all manufacturer has support sites that provide a download of the Drivers. Otherwise, get a new card with its drivers a decent 10/100 standard Network Card is about $10. Jack (MVP-Networking). no permission to access network, but can access mapped folder on network
Dial up networking on Windows XP Professional Why cant PPC/HPC devices network to a Macintosh? Shared folders not accesible over LAN by specific users. Broadband activity Network problem-one PC shows up twice in search results Maybe OT: How to be a net-masochist I dragged a HDD from a networked computer Folder lost in unsharing it - disaster Complicated network setup - losing any hope! |
