can you use an EV-DO card on a wirless home networkI just turned off my DSL and purchased a Sprint wireless card using EV-DO.
Using the existing wirless router I used for all my computers at home, is there a way to have my other computers access the internet through the computer that has the EV-DO card in it? In article <CC759FCC-5B11-4E4A-84F0-97544AB40***@microsoft.com>,

Ethernet adapter: 1. Configure the wireless router as a wireless access point only, bypassing its routing capabilities. Some wireless routers, such as my Belkin F5D7230, have an "access point only" setting built in. If yours doesn't, disable the wireless router's built-in DHCP server and set its LAN IP address to 192.168.0.254. 2. Configure the computer with the EV-DO card as an Internet Connection Sharing host. a. Connect its Ethernet adapter to a LAN port on the router. Don't connect anything to the router's WAN (Internet) port. b. Enable Internet Connection Sharing on the EV-DO connection. If it asks what to use for the home network connection, tell it to use the wired Ethernet connection. I just tested this setup successfully using my Sprint PCS card. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. Microsoft Most Valuable Professional Program http://mvp.support.microsoft.com You'd need to turn on the ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) service on the
PC with the EVDO card, and turn off all routing and DHCP functions on your router (turning it into a simple switch). -- Show quoteHide quoteRichard G. In addition to using ICS as Steve and Richard suggest, Linksys (and > Using the existing wirless router I used for all my computers at home, is > there a way to have my other computers access the internet through the > computer that has the EV-DO card in it? perhaps others) has come out with a wireless router that works directly with at least Sprint EVDO cards (the product description says "Mobile Broadband Data Card" but the data sheet only mentions Sprint). http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1160093298732&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=9873239789B01 The advantage of this -- if you have a Sprint card -- is that you won't have to leave any computer on in order to let other computers access the Internet. The disadvantage is that you have to buy more equipment, rather than using your existing wireless router. -- Lem MS MVP -- Networking To the moon and back with 64 Kbits of RAM and 512 Kbits of ROM. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_Guidance_Computer |
