My desktop computer is now showing the 'network cable unplugged' message
after it was rebooted with my laptop currently accessing a document file on
it.  Obviously by the message, I can not connect to my router.  The cable is
connected and modem/router is functioning correctly.

1) I have validated the cable connection is good by connecting my laptop to
it.

2) I have rebooted the desktop but it will still not recognize the
connection to  the router.

3) I have reinstalled the driver for the ethernet card.

4) I went back to a system restore point prior to the condition.

None of this has rest the condition.  It would appear that the reboot of the
machine somehow corrupted the network files in my desktop unit. Are there any
..dll files to re-register or any other way to resest condion?

I don't wish to have to do a reinstall of windows are attempt a ghost
restore.  Is there any action I can take to restore the networking functions.
Thanks.

Hi Cowboyden,

You could try a chkdsk /r in a command prompt. Answer "Y" to do it on
re-boot; then re-boot.

This may fix your problem? Won't hurt anyway..

make the computer work for you.

I get/got the "network cable unplugged" when trying to network my
computers.  The problem is/was the router assignment for the 'other'
computer starts 71.xxx which is way out of the ball park, I gather.
I've been talking to the router people who say it shouldn't matter but
the software people say their software won't recognize the '71' IP.
Just a thought...
