Hi, I've now got two PC and one laptop on my network.  One PC and the Laptop
run vista and the older PC runs XP.  All the computers can see each other and
the two vista machines will file share and can see files on all machine but
for some reason the XP machine will not read any files stored on the vista
machines.  All machines are in the same workgroup.  The vista machine are on
a wireless connection, the XP machine is wired with the router connected to
it.  All machines have go McAfee installed.  Has anybody got any suggestions.
Thanks

Sarah,

You'll have Vista specific issues.
# Set the Network Location Type to "Private". This implies that your computers
are secure, behind a perimeter firewall or a NAT router, and opens the personal
firewall for file sharing.
# Check / set "Password protected sharing" (PPS). Disabling PPS is the
equivalent of enabling Simple File Sharing, in Windows XP.
# Setup shared folders and printers. If you enabled PPS, you should setup access
for individual users. If you disabled PPS, you setup access for "Guest" or
"Everyone".

And you'll have normal Windows Networking issues.
# Make sure that NetBT is Enabled consistently.
# Make sure that all personal firewalls are properly setup.  McAfee is a known
problem here.
# Make sure that name resolution is consistently setup.
