No internet on client (adhoc network)I've reinstalled... 1. The OS for my XP host machine. 2. AOL for internet 3. Drivers for Wireless USB adapter I've then..... 1. Gone into the Wireless adapter properties 2. Clicked on 'Wireless Networks' 3. Added my network name in 'Preferred networks' disabling 'Data Encryption' 4. Clicked 'Advanced' then on 'Computer-to-computer (ad-hoc) networks only' I have no firewalls installed as yet and I've disabled Windows firewall. Manually configuring 'Internet Connection Sharing' through Local Area Connection gives me the error: Internet Connection Sharing cannot be enabled. A LAN connection is already configured with the IP address that is required for automatic IP addressing. The Network Setup Wizard fails to work too. My Area Connection has the IP address 192.168.x.x My Wireless adapter AND the adapter in my Vista laptop have the IP address 169.255.x.x File sharing is fine. No problem at all but my client laptop can't access the internet ( due not having the correct IP address) Ipconfig/all logs as follows : HOST ------- Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : BLADESMAN Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : home Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : home Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connecti on Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-11-11-54-C0-79 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.2 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 10 May 2007 21:48:26 Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 11 May 2007 21:48:26 Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection 2: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapt er with SpeedBooster v2 Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-16-B6-54-39-4F Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration IP Address. . . : 169.254.198.41 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : PPP adapter {C4C48640-2EAB-440A-A1E3-541E3F681C6F}: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-53-45-00-00-00 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 172.209.30.180 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 172.209.30.180 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 205.188.146.145 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled CLIENT -------- Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Tracy-PC Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : RT73 USB Wireless LAN Card Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-0D-F0-38-DB-71 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::49ac:6c02:4857:ded9%9(Preferred) Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . : 169.254.222.217(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : DHCPv6 IAID . . . . . . . . . . . : 218107376 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : fec0:0:0:ffff::1%1 fec0:0:0:ffff::2%1 fec0:0:0:ffff::3%1 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Marvell Yukon 88E8055 PCI-E Gigabit Ether net Controller Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-16-36-F1-9E-E8 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 6: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : isatap.{8B486015-9742-44E9-9D95-CF38C5975 D21} Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::5efe:169.254.222.217%13(Preferred) Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : fec0:0:0:ffff::1%1 fec0:0:0:ffff::2%1 fec0:0:0:ffff::3%1 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 10: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : isatap.{886C7424-54A9-4819-A002-FF7D2BF9E FA3} Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Any help will be greatly appreiciated. upgraded to AOL 9.0 VR (Vista Ready), even though I am not running Vista. The VR version solved the problems I had in SE, but starts up and runs slowly. The main frustration is inability to network with my other computers. See my post "Network Connection Wizard Fails" posted yesterday. -- Show quoteHide quoteLief in SLC, UT "BLADESMAN" wrote: > Hi Lief, > > Did you upgrade from AOL 9.0? > > The reply from AJR suggests AOL does not support ICS > > "Lief" wrote: > > > I just posted a question with similar behavior where I cannot see my other > > computers and all the troubleshooting I have done cannot resolve the problem, > > which started when I installed, or upgraded to, AOL 9.0 VR.
