You need the one which has the correct pin connections for an Ad-Hoc network. Jim In article <Vp21i.21139$JZ3.18***@newssvr13.news.prodigy.net>, "Jim"

Some recent computers can connect to another computer using a regular Ethernet cable as well as a crossover cable. The term "Ad-hoc" applies to a wireless network connection between two computers, not to a wired network connection. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. Otherwise, connect the Ethernet cards to each other using a crossover Ethernet cable. Run the Network Setup Wizard (in Start > All Programs > Accessories > Communications) on the XP computer. The best way to form a Network would depend on whether you need Internet sharing too, and if such is the case what type of connection you have. However, If you just want to network the two computers, connect them with crossover Cat5e cable (available in most computer stores), and configure the two computers for File and Printer Sharing. Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings, http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is allowed to be shared.
