Can't ping dns name but can ping ipI'm running Windows XP service pack 2. The problem I'm having is that I can't
connect to the Internet. When I bring up a command line, I run ipconfig and I have an IP address and the IP address of the DNS server is correct. I then ran nslookup to lookup the IP address for www.google.com and www.yahoo.com. Both names successfully resolved into an IP address. I then used ping and I was able to successfully ping those 2 IP addresses. But if I try to ping the DNS names, the ping fails with a timeout error. I installed an anti-spyware problem and an anti-virus program and made sure my system was clean. I used netsh to reset the TCPIP protocol and I also tried re-installing TCP-IP from the installation CD. But I'm still having the problem. Is there anything else I can do other than reinstalling XP? I fixed the problem. Seems that there was a failed SP3 update on the computer
and after uninstalling SP3, the networking stuff starting working correctly. Show quoteHide quote "CajunComputerGuy" wrote: > I'm running Windows XP service pack 2.
