trouble installing KB826942 wireless rollupI've been trying to install KB826942 the Wireless update rollup package for XP on a laptop running Windows XP Home Edition SP2 to enable me to use WPA-PSK wireless pre-spared authentication mode. I downloaded the KB826942 package for 32-bit and ran the install, it did the usual inventory, backup and install of new files and then rebooted, no errors at all. After the reboot I'm still not getting WPA-PSK as an authentication option. Running a QFECHECK reveals that KB826942 doesn't appear to be installed, its not listed at all. I've tried using the command line switches on the download set-up file to un-install and re-install the update but it says that a log file was not created and the update can't be uninstalled. If I try to install it over the top it tells me the service pack level is already higher than the update I'm trying to apply. What can I try next? I'm a bit at a loss to explain why the update hasn't downloaded and installed automatically. Auto-updates are set to download and install without prompting, it doesn't seem to have come down. Its not listed on windows update for that machine either. Thanks! -- -Lawrence Stromski. Hello Lawrence,
Thank you for posting in the Windows XP VAP newsgroup! From your post, my understanding on this issue is: When you tried to install Q826942, the installation did not complete fully. If I misunderstood it, please let me know. Based on my research, Q826942 is included in the SP2 of windows xp. So you needn't to install it again. There is detail information: List of fixes included in Windows XP Service Pack 2 http://support.microsoft.com/?id=811113 The reason why there is no place in the GUI to enter a reshaped key for WPA perhaps is the old version driver of your wireless NIC. You can get in touch with the manufactory for the newest driver. If there's any further question, please feel free to post back. The in-built centrino 2100 BC wireless adaptor doesn't
appear to support WPA. Thanks! -- Show quote-Lawrence Stromski.
