Hello,
Two units with WindowsXP Home SP2 all security updates. 56k modem
connection.  Both have NIC's and are connected with a crossover cable.
Using MSHome Network, sharing files and printers.
Plan on aquiring a cable connection, thru local cable company.
Will purchase a cable modem and a router. Wire connection.
I would like to have both units communicating with each other and online.

After removing the crossover cable will the "MSHome Network" setup need to
be removed befroe installing the cable modem?

Are there any sites that have tutorials on cable modem, router setup and
file/printer sharing?

Thank You.
Take Care.

The only network setting I can think of that might need changing is
the IP addressing scheme.  If you've assigned static IP addresses to
the computers, re-configure them to obtain an IP address automatically
from the router.

Connect the cable modem to the router's WAN or Internet port.  Connect
the computers to the router's LAN ports.

If the computers have firewall programs, configure the firewalls to
allow file/printer sharing on the LAN.
