No DHCP address but ststic OKprobably all went back to an unsucessful install of Zonelabs... Anyway I lost network connections. I have now been able to connect to my LAN by providing a static IP address but my machine won't pickup a DHCP address. DHCP is working as my 2nd system is working fine. I have tried various "fixes" netch int reset etc; I feel I am close to cracking it now...any suggestions ? here are my machine IP settings: Good machine Windows 2000 IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : systema Primary DNS Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : abc123 abc123 abc123 Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 5: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : abc123.com Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/100+ MiniPCI Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-10-A4-84-84-64 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.75.24 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.192 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.75.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.162.12 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.162.21 192.168.163.21 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 03 August 2006 10:02:22 Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 03 August 2006 22:02:22 C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator> ************************************************************** Bad Machine Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 10: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-0d-60-8a-64-59 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 169.254.43.216 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : when I do an IP / release and renew I get a message saying: an error occured while renewing interface local area connection 10 An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket TIA, Ned

This will definitely cause network connection problems. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/problems-with-lsp-winsock-layer-in.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/problems-with-lsp-winsock-layer-in.html -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
