The not so GURU
Ok this is the story... I have 2 computers running XP home edition. My
computer has the internet via ADSL( and works fine). The second computer
requires the internet for business use. I have tried to set up the network
between the 2 PCs with no luck. On the remote computer it shows links between
itself - my PC and the gateway.(Data moves between the 2 pcs but not to the
net) File sharing did work but now it has gone bye-bye too. I seemed to have
missed something in the setup. I also have a ethernet hub which appears to be
working fine as the 2 PC's constantly chat to each other?!?!? I have a
firewall(zone alarm) and don't know if that is also causing problems. Can
someone please help?
Its getting to the stage of lining up the 2 computers in the back yard and
thrashing the daylights out of one of them! That way the other one will see
what has just happened and may be a bit more compliant and work properly.
Also to teach the other one a lesson!!

Getting greyer by the second,

Mick

The first thing to do is to uninstall any non-Microsoft firewall software,
and to disable XP's built-in firewall software, while getting the network
set up correctly.

Once you've done that, let us know what you're trying to do and what error
messages, if any, appear when you try to do it.

Richard,
Ok...I did what you asked. I have shut down the firewall and I now get the
internet on the second computer. Obvoiusly the firewall was stopping the
second pc getting out. Now how do I fix that problem?  Any ideas?

much happier now,

Mick

Was this a Microsoft firewall or a third-party firewall?
