File and printer sharing on home network, previously working now not

I have a wireless and wired home network consisting of 1 desktop and 1
laptop each running xp. File sharing on each is set to allow each to
read certain files from the other. Something has changed so that file
sharing is now not allowed in either direction although My Network
Places from each computer still shows both computers within "Mshome".
Each computer successfully pings the other. The situation is the same
whether wireless or wired networking is used. Turning Windows Firewall
off on both computers has no effect on the problem.

All ideas gratefully received.

Net view from desktop to laptop client gives System error 53.
Net view from laptop client to desktop gives no error, and reports
shared resources correctly - but they still aren't visible at My
Network Places.
Can you help me to solve this problem?

Thanks.

1. System error 53 is connection issue or firewall issue.
2. If you can net view other computer but browse it, this is master browser issue.
