XP Home Network: Name resolution problem?share files through Workgroup "Mshome". Sharing of files and printers fails. NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on Server and Client. Turning off XP Firewalls doesn't help. Here are Ping and Net View results: Server can ping itself by IP address and NetBIOS name. Server can ping Client by IP address but not by NetBIOS name ["Ping request could not find host SamsungX10. Please check the name and try again."]. Client can ping itself by IP address and NetBIOS name. Client can ping Server by IP address but not by name ["Ping request could not find host Scotts. Please check the name and try again."]. Net View from Client shows shared resources when addressing itself by IP address and NetBIOS name. Net View from Client shows shared resources when addressing Server by IP address but not by NetBIOS name ["System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found."]. Net View from Server shows shared resources when addressing itself by IP address and NetBIOS name. Net View from Server shows shared resources when addressing Client by IP address but not by NetBIOS name ["System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found."]. Seems to be a problem of resolving the NetBIOS names? NBTSTAT shows Scotts and SamsungX10 are both unique names. Both appear correctly in registry. How should I tackle this? Help gratefully received.
