Can ping, can't see in workgroup -- please helpI have a desktop connected by ethernet cable to a Netgear RangeMax router
(WPN824), and a laptop connected wirelessly to the same router. Both internet connections are working. Both can ping each other. I used the "network setup wizard" on each to try to set up a network and had each use the same workgroup name (Mshome). If I try to click "view workgroup computers," on each computer it can only see itself. [One time I clicked on it I was able to see the desktop from the laptop, but when i tried to click on it it said "access denied"]. I want to have a network so that I can file-share and hopefully share printers. Can anyone help? Thanks. Hi
Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings, http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what is allowed to be shared. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304040 Jack (MVP-Networking). Can anyone help? Thanks. One of the most common causes of your stated problem would be a misconfigured or overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this article with an open mind. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/10/irregularities-in-workgroup-visibility.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/10/irregularities-in-workgroup-visibility.html Check for a consistent NetBT setting. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/04/netbios-over-tcpip.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/04/netbios-over-tcpip.html And finally, look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config server", and "net config workstation", from each computer, and diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!): <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#AskingForHelp> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#AskingForHelp -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
