Should the brands match for security?Hi,
We have three computers (desk and lap) and we share an internet connection using a wireless network. We use cable service which is connected to a cable modem and then a router. The point is that we tried to enable WEP or any other security features, but everytime we did it, there was a problem with the connection meaning that the SSID was being broadcasted but we couldn't connect. Somebody's told me that all the wireless network cards and also the router should have the same brand name - sounds silly to me. Is that right? Can it be the reason since we are using different wireless cards and etc.? In article <1155090879.928204.153***@m73g2000cwd.googlegroups.com>,

Some manufacturers make equipment with proprietary, non-standard modes. For example, any operating mode with "108", "Turbo" or "Pre-N" in its name is non-standard and should only be used with the same manufacturer's equipment. However, such equipment can usually operate in the standard modes as well. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see.
