Windows XP won't let me see my own computer in a workgroup in Windows Explorer

When I go to

My Network Places -> Entire Network -> Microsoft Windows Network -> Natehome

in Windows Explorer and click on Natehome (the name of the workgroup), I receive the following error:

However, if I manually enter the name of my computer in the address bar using the format \\mycomputername it shows it as a child of Natehome in the hierarchy and lets me browse the children of \\mycomputername. The only network my computer is on is a home network (although I am the only one with this as the name of the workgroup, and all the others are usually turned off), and I use Windows XP Pro SP2. What do I need to do in order to be able to browse to my own machine in Microsoft Windows Network? I'm sure it is something simple, but I'm not sure what. Thanks.

Make sure in the Services mapping that "Computer Browser" is started
and set to Automatic. Also make sure the Network Interface Card has
the "Client For Microsoft Network" bound to it and enabled. Since you
use XP Professional, I'd disable "Simple File Sharing" from Folder Options,
View (TAB - entry at bottom of listing).

Services Console:
Click Start, Run (type) Services.Msc [Enter]

Also XP doesn't like Networking with an account that uses a "Null" or
empty password - if you don't have a password, I'd add one.

When I go to the Services Console and start the Computer Browser service (which already was set to automatic), I receive the following error:

Because this is what is happening, I am guessing that my problem has to do with something else. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Nathan, try running the Network Setup Wizard and make sure you choose "Yes"
for File & Printer Sharing. Read through the information here:

http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/08/networking-your-computers.html

And Windows computers do not need to be in the same Workgroup to share files
and printers. The Workgroup name is simply a cosmetic and organizational
device.

Nathan - all computers in a workgroup must have the same workgroup name - you state: "The only network my computer is on is a home network (although I am the only one with this as the name of the workgroup".-

I realize this, I am not currently looking to have anybody else in the same workgroup as me. At the moment, I simply want to be able to see my own computer listed when I look at the list of computers in the workgroup (which should be just me, since none of the other machines on my home network are even turned on and don't use the same workgroup).

Yes ond No!

Yes, IF you want the comp directly in "My Network Places"
No, if you go "My Network Places" -> "Entire Network"
-> "Microsoft Windows Network" -> the workgroup.

My desktop and laptop have the workgroupname "ralla.cxm" and
I take my laptop to other workgroup like "eriksore", "hemma",
"hyrdator", "sorreborre"  and I can see every comp in every
workgroup if I go tru "My Network Places" -> "Entire Network"
-> "Microsoft Windows Network" -> the workgroup.
