Networking with a PCI cardI have a desktop and a laptop that I have connected using an ethernet cable.
I purchased a PCMCIA to PCI adapter so that I can use my verizon wireless card on the desktop since my laptop is on it's last leg. I had previously had the network set-up so that the laptop was the host and used the PCI card and everything worked fine. I have now switched them and set up a new network (workgroup name) with the desktop as the host. I can see the files on both computers and can ping each computer from the other. I can also check email via Outlook and my work email through a secure site. My only problem now is that I can not access any www sites. Please help.... My other question is, once I get this working, would I be able to buy a wireless router to do the same thing? My laptop has a wireless capabilities. Thank you Yes, if you have ADSL or cable, then I would suggest using a wireless-capable
router. Bear in-mind not all routers include the cable or DSL modem, buy one that does. Difficult to say what's causing your existing problem, it depends on just how you connect to the internet. If you purchase a router and set the cards to obtain an IP address automatically from it, that should work. Don't forget to set-up encryption (preferably WPA) once you've got it going.
