Simple File Sharing bug???using Simple File Sharing (SFS). On one of the computers I set up a folder (C:\Downloads) and shared it as "Downloads", and then I downloaded a .exe file into it (i.e. ccsetup132.exe for CCleaner). If I go to another PC on our network, and look into that shared folder of the first computer, \\FirstComputer\Downloads) on My Network Places, I cannot Copy or Open the file. If I do a Properties on that file I get the Screen, Misc, Compatibility, General, Program, Font, and Memory tabs. Now if I go back to the first computer with the shared folder called Downloads that has the file ccsetup132.exe in it, and create another shared folder, for example, called Downloads2, and then copy ccsetup132.exe from C:\Downloads into C:\Downloads2, then if I go to any other computer on our network and look into that shared folder, i.e. \\FirstComputer\Downloads2, then I can both Copy and Open that file. And if I do a Properties on that file, I get General, Compatibility, and Summary tabs or a Properties window that has General, Version, Compatibility, Digital Signatures, and Summary tabs. Does anyone know why this is? If I go to the first computer, and copy ccsetup1232.exe from C:\Downloads2 (i.e. the one that is shared correctly across the network) and paste it over the copy of ccsetup132.exe in C:\Downloads, it has no effect, i.e. ccsetup132.exe still doesn't share correctly across the network. Very strange. I have tried turning on and off the Guest Account, making sure NetBios is turned on over TCP/IP, making sure that my Computer Browser service is running, making sure that there are no funny attributes on the files, making sure that no viruses or spyware are on the PC, and for the XP Pro PCs I have ensured that SFS is enabled. This is makes no sense, so if you have a clue please let me know. Thanks, Mark On Tue, 15 Aug 2006 23:25:01 -0700, Mark <M***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote:

Depending upon how you move a file or folder, it may or may not retain any permissioning problems as it is moved. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/11/irregularities-in-individual-share.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/11/irregularities-in-individual-share.html -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
