Network PC's for Printer Sharing OnlyI have 2 PCs, PC1 and PC2. PC2 needs to connect to PC1 to use PC1's printer.
They are now networked and the printer is shared ok. PC1's NIC is set to 192.168.3.1, submask is 255.255.255.0, both Gateway and DNS are blank (I don't want PC2 to access the internet). PC2's NIC is set to 192.168.3.2, 255.255.255.0, both Gateway and DNS are also blank. My problem is, PC2 is a laptop and we have a different PC2 every now and then. Having to set PC2's NIC to the static IP is a pain. Is there a way of enabling DHCP so we don't have to set PC2's IP address each time? The problem with enabling ICS is that PC1's IP would be set to 192.168.0.1 which would conflict with the router's IP, plus we don't want PC2 to access the internet. There's no way to do what you want with either DHCP or DNS. You could, if
the printer supports it, get a network device to attach it to so it will keep the same IP address and need no PC to connect to. -- Show quoteHide quoteRichard G.
