unable to connect to Internet, but getting a valid 192.168 addressI have a laptop running XP and it has a built-in Lan port and a wireless
ethernet card built-in. A few days ago it stopped connecting to the Internet. I can't get mail or browse the web. I am getting the valid address 192.168.2.19 from my router and if I hook directly to my cable modem I'm geting the 24.68. etc.. which is a valid address from my ISP. I removed the anti-virus software and my firewall is off, but I can't get to the internet or my mail. Any idea what is wrong? Any idea what will fix the problem? I also tried unistalling and reinstalling the wireless and hardwired LAN components and still nothing. This problem is affecting both the wired and wireless connections. I also ran the network setup wizard and the intenet connection wizard with no change in status. Thanks Sounds as if your router is not set correctly for your WAN. Logon to your
router ( using http ) and check the WAN settings James http://www.BandwidthVista.com Show quoteHide quote "Bill Simard" <BillSim***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:D0B8C3EF-B3B9-4C63-AEA3-38281BBE4DF7@microsoft.com... >I have a laptop running XP and it has a built-in Lan port and a wireless > ethernet card built-in. 1. Connect the laptop directly to the modem and make sure you are getting the 24.68, etc. address. 2. Ping 4.2.2.1 - if you get a response, Internet routing is working. If you get a request time out, the problem is most likely with the modem or your ISP's infrastructure. Try resetting the modem and/or call your ISP. 3. If #2. works, ping google.com. If you get a response, DNS is working. If you get a request time out or host not found, then the problem is DNS or possibly Internet security/proxy software. Run ipconfig /all and note the IP address of the DNS server - call your ISP. I can't understand why it's getting the IP address and not connecting to the Internet. Could the winsock be messed up? Show quoteHide quote "Doug Sherman [MVP]" wrote: > Try: > > 1.
