Need help with workgroup settingsrunning xp home edition as well. I created a work group and ran the network setup disk on both pcs to get them to join the workgroup. Configs:- XP home editions(both pcs) Problem #1: When i open the workgroup thru my desktop, i see both my laptop and the desktop itself. But when i open the same workgroup on my laptop, my desktop does not appear to be in the workgroup....how do i fix this? Prob#2:- Since, both pcs show on the workgroup thru my desktop, I tried dbl-clicking the laptop icon and it gives an error saying that i donot have rights and resources and I should contact admin. any fixes for this? Prob#3:- My goal is to create a network such that I am able to access/share files between my laptop and desktop simultaneously. Printer sharing is not an issue here. I dont need a network printer. Just that a workgroup such that I can share and change files in one common place and access them using both pcs. Also, how can i make such a network secure so that only my 2 pcs can share and access things. FYI---No encryption option avail as im using xp home edition. Any help is appreciated...it has been extremely frustrating and time consuming to try to set up this workgroup!! 1. make sure no firewall blocking the traffic.
