Install 2 network connections to 1 PC

I have a wireless connection on my WinXP32 PC which I use to access the
internet.

My neighbour and friend also has a wireless network at his home.

I want to install another wireless adapter to my PC for the purposes of
having connectivity with my friends PC.  I don't want to use my first adapter
as I don't (or rather, others in my family don't) want to grant my friend
access to our home LAN (basically so he can't - at least without a bit of
hacking - use my familys internet connection).

How would this work ?   Basically with 2 wifi adapters, I would send all my
traffic to my existing adapter and connection except for certain
protocol/port combinations where I would use the second adapter for that
traffic.

Does anyone know if this has been done before ? Having searched, there's
nothing really out there on this.

If there are no replies, then I will go for my own trial and error and
report back for the benefit of others with similar wacky ideas in future.

Thanks
