No internet access from networked computerI have 2 wired networked computers, A and B. A has the broadband internet
connection. From B I can access the files and printers attached to A but not the internet. Both computers when running net view A show files and printers for A. Similarly, computer A can also see B. Both have windows firewalls and I suspect it is something to do with this that is preventing internet access. On the Firewall advanced tab for the local area connection I have ticked all the boxes under "settings". Can anyone help? Thanks. -- Gulp can you ping a public IP? If yes, can you ping yahoo.com? If you can't ping a web site, I would check the DNS first.

I copy below the IPconfig printout. A couple of questions: 1. I notice that on the IPCONFIG printout it states that netbios over tcp/ip is disabled, yet I have enabled it on all the network connections from the properties, wins box. In the Services list from control panel it states that the TCIP is started. I don't understand, therefore, why the printout states that it is not started. 2. How can I temporarily disable the Cisco software and/or its firewall? I hope you can help. Thank you. I have uninstalled all protocols except client for microsoft networks, file and printer sharing and TCP/IP on both computers. I then ran the set up wizard on each. Both computers can see each other but computer B still cannot access the internet. I notice on Office (computer A) that on the local area connection properties, advanced tag, the internet sharing box was not ticked. I guess it should be? However, even when ticked and re-booted, computer B still cannot access the internet. I have, therefore left it unticked. I attach the latest IPconfig info if it is of any use. Thanks again. The kids computer could still not get internet access. However, I decided to try uninstalling VPN Client and without it both computyers can get access to the internet. Is there no way I can use VPN Client this with a home network? Thanks for your assistance. On Sat, 16 Sep 2006 08:51:01 -0700, Gulp <G***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote:

If your problem is caused by the presence of a VPN, you have to figure out how to configure the VPN so you don't have problems. Or you figure out specifically what the VPN is doing to cause the problem, then work around the problem. OTOH, if you are running a VPN between your home computer and a work computer, the folks at work might NOT want you connecting to the Internet at the same time. This behaviour might be by design. VPNs have a purpose, and you might want to ask yourself if you're trying to defeat that purpose. -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
