Networking with XP vs 98SEup until now, all of our workstations at work use Win98SE. we need to
connect to one Win2000 server and one Novell 3.12 server (our business is run on some customer software that only runs on Novell). I have our first XP machines in house. the machines have XP Home. Currently, we use Client for Microsoft Networks to log onto our Win2000 server using the domain name. We then use Microsoft Client for Netware and set the default server to our Novell server name. Does anyone have any help to tell me how to do this same thing with XP? Can it be done using XP Home? I don't even see a place to put the default domain name.

You can define the XP Home computers in a workgroup with the same name as the domain, which will allow them to see the servers in Network Neighborhood, but you'll have to setup matching accounts on each client and server. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html> XP Pro would have been a far better choice here. Was there any particular reason for choosing XP Home? -- Cheers, Chuck http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem - it's a normal response from experience. My email is AT DOT actual address pchuck sonic net. Yes, for a business use, stay away from XP Home like plague. Use only Pro.

Longhorn release at the end of 2005 - start of 2006 or purchase W2k. Having XPH you use the same approach as for W9x and you are right, there is no place to put a domain name.
