I am trying to connect to a Windows XP machine via RDC.

Both machines have a Linksys router. I have opened up port 3889 on the
router and redirected it to the machine that I want to connect to.

When I type in the IP address, I get a message:

The client could not connect to the remote computer.

Any ideas how I can get connected?

thanks

Did you really mean TCP Port 3389 or is 3889 a typo? Can you connect to the
PC from another PC on the same LAN using the private static LAN IP? Any
personal firewall software running on the PC that may be blocking incoming
RDP requests?

Beyond that see the troubleshooting section...

Make sure your using the correct public IP of the router...

I tried again.

Errors again. I disabled both Zone Alarm and Norton 2005.

Real VNC, I get an connection error. I guess a time out error.

RDC.-- I get this error:
Because of a protocol error at the client (0x1104), the session will
be disconnected.
