One Way Ping SolvedI am sorry I "hijacked" another thread a few days ago--I am new to this and
didn't understand the etiquette. Anyway, for the general interest of others, I was able to ping other computers on my network but they couldn't ping me. File sharing used to work but was infrequently used in our office. When I tried to use, the lack of communication became apparent even though internet services were working fine. I eventually found two problems, the first was that when re-installing my Norton Antivirus a souple of months ago, Personal Firewall was activated. This stopped pinging (even of myself). Secondly, after I turned off the personal firewall, I then found (eventually after many hours) that Windows Firewall "exceptions" tab in properties had File and Print Sharing disabled. When I ticked the box, everything came good. The resources on PChuck's Network site taught me a lot--there is a lot to read, but for anyone having network problems it is a great help. Brad - Good post -It would make the newsgroup more effective, and enjoyable,
if those who post a problem would also post successful solutions as you have. And everybody here is always learning how much can go wrong. As AJR writes, though, when you post afterwards, and let folks know what works, others following you will be helped. And that's the point of peer assistance. So we thank you. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/how-to-post-on-usenet-and-encourage.html#Followup> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/how-to-post-on-usenet-and-encourage.html#Followup -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
