Win2k cannot set Internet connection through LAN?

This problem is about Win2000.  Since there is no win2000 group, I ask it
here and hope to get some help. I have a win2k system in our subnet. It can
get IP from our DHCP server and I can join it to our domain (Win server
2003). However, I just cannot set its Internet Connection through LAN. I can
open Internet Connection Option and select LAN for Internet connection and
either check or uncheck "Automatic discover proxy server".  When I click
"Finish", all the setting are gone and I cannot connect Internet.  If I start
Internet Connection wizard again, I found that all setting through LAN are
gone -- everything shows up as "default", i.e. as "I want to sign up for a
new internet account..." ...  I can ping our LAN servers, but not systems
outside of our subnet. The port is okay because I can connect other good
systems to this port to go to Internet.  Can somebody tell what's wrong with
this win2000?
Thanks!

No, we don't have proxy server in the LAN. It cannot ping any public PC, nor
yahoo.com.  It can ping only pcs in the LAN.  I set its tcp/ip all as DHCP,
the same as for other pc.  spyware or worm? I don't feel it is infected
because I istalled win2k with sp4 offline. After everything is installed,
then plug in the network cable, it got the ip address from our dhcp server
and I can join it to our domain.  However, it just cannot go to internet.
Thanks.

If you have lan connectivity but no Internet, check your DNS settings.
The server should look to itself for DNS with forward/reverse lookups
for the Internet and all workstations should look to the server.

Since you can't ping a public IP, I would check the routing table first.

I will do that. Could you tell me how to do it -- "check the routing table"?
Thanks a lot!

I checked the routing table.  Here is what I got from this win2k:

I just can't see any difference between them except the ip addresses.  But
one win2k works well, the other can only see the LAN, not outside of our
subnet, even the dns server that is in another subnet of our campus.

What is actually wrong?

Finally, I solved the problem.  It is the NIC although the device manager
does not show any error. I replaced it, then everything is working.
