What does Network Magic know that Microsoft doesn't?I have been struggling to get my four Win XP pcs to talk to each other via an
ethernet/wireless network with D-Link router and ADSL modem to share printer some filespaces. The security systems on each XP installation seem to frustrate the others. I read all the available tips and tutorials, but there were still problems. I downloaded the Network Magic trial and installed it on all four pcs. Immediately, every PC was visible, all the shares were enabled, the printer was available to everyone, even the router and adsl modem status was being displayed. So, does Network Magic know more about XP than Microsloth? I think so... Tony A sarcastic question deserves a sarcastic response. It's what you don't know
about networking and security that was causing your problems. First of all what Network Magic just did was probably open up your 4 PC's to everyone. Now if you feel comfortable with that then go for it. Are you using XP Pro or Home edition? Home is crippled as far as sharing is concerned. If you are using Pro then you should have no problem sharing resources provided you set up IP settings and personal firewall settings properly. If you feel comfortable allowing software like Network Magic to take control of those settings for you without knowing what specifically was done then have at it. If you want to be more specific about what version you are using and exactly what problems you were having, I'll be glad to give you better answers. -- Show quoteHide quoteMichael E. Or you could diagnose the way your network is now setup, and make sure that you like it that way. It's your network - what do you want? <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/10/computer-uniqueness.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/10/computer-uniqueness.html -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
