Not able to connect my laptop to Internet using Broadband connectiHi all,
I have a ADSL broadband connection. I could successfully connect my home desktop (which is not part of any domain) to access Internet. While I am trying to connect my office laptop (that is part of domain) to this, I am not able to connect to Internet. However, my laptop is getting an IP assigned by the DHCP server on the ADSL Modem. But my browser keeps saying "detecting proxysettings" without successess. When I see windows firewall settings, the only difference I see is in case of my laptop it says some security settings are controlled through group policy. Sometime back I used to successfully access Internet, but only recently I found this problem. Is it any restriction imposed by our office administrators? As I am not connecting into domain at home, is there any way I can bypass and be able to connect to Internet. Any help on this is highly appreciated. Hari How are you connecting your laptop? - Wireless or RJ45?

Both options are not
working from my laptop. But I am getting IP assigned through the DHCP server. If it's not yours, don't mess with it. It's set up the way it is for a reason. Sorry for bit delayed response. The laptop belongs to my Employer, but we have a policy where they allow us to use broadband from home. Apparently the group policy settings are not causing any problems for my other coleagues who use their laptops successfully from home using the same setup. To test this, I connected my normal desktop to the ADSL modem and successfully could browse the web. But when I connect my laptop (windows xp professional with sp2), it successfully get an IP from the DHCP server, but I am not able to connect to web. I enabled the proxy setting in IE to auto discovery and unchecked all. My windows firewall buttons are all disabled. To test this, further, I disconnected my laptop from my domain and started it as a workgroup. Even then, I am facing with same problem. When I disconnect my laptop from the domain, even then my Windows Firewall settings are grayed and says that it is controlled through group policy. Am I missing something here? To test further, I did MSN network troubleshoot tests. Everything is fine, except it says some key ports are failed. Does this give any hints? I ran a windows registry cleaner (CCleaner) to see if there are any registry settings that is causing this, but without any success. Any help on this is highly appreciated as this is bugging me for about 3 weeks by now. Internet Properties-->Connections-->LAN settings then you'll get it. Hi all,
Oh, at last my problem got resolved and I could connect my laptop successfully to Internet. Thanks to the article "Darkside of Windows XP Service Pack 2" by Brient M.Posey and the WinsockXPFix.exe. It worked for me. So, it appeared to be some registry corruption problem. Thank you all for all your inputs.
