Using a cell phone to connect to ISP servercorrect adapter cable and have the network connection set up to dial the correct number. When I dial the server number on the phone itself, I can hear the server tones. There is a 5-10 second delay from when the phone call is initiated untill the sever responds. When I try to connect with Windows XP, the cell phone dials the number and almost immediately Windows terminates the call with the error message that the server is not responding. I need Windows XP to wait 5-10 seconds for the phone call to connect before checking for the server. How do I cause Windows XP to wait after the number is dialed for the server to respond? I tried using commas behind the phone number but that did not work. Dennis Eger ege***@dmrtc.net Cell phones, when used as a modem, do NOT offer a dial tone
when off hook, which confuses Dial Up Networking. Check to see if "Wait for dial tone before dialing" is NOT checked in Control Panel for the modem entry you created for this device and that Hardware is selected in Data Connection Preferences. connection to an ISP without modem availability. Taking a guess here - your wireless service would have to provide the capability. work when configured as "Generic XXXXX Modem" (where XXXXX = speed such as 28800, 36000). You will obviously need an account with a provider that has dial up. The wireless provider does not need to have any special capability. We're talking S-L-O-W data rates here, usually 14400. You just hook them up to a USB or serial port, do an "Add New Modem" for the generic type that fits the device's data rate and dial away...
