lost router password--querywith a linksys router. Upstairs I use a Dell Inspiron 2200. All works great. I even have some folders networked and various security settings are in place. This was done about 3 years ago and I no longer remember how to do settings and I also lost the password to change any settings. If I get desperate I can always press the reset button but then I would have to call Linksys to help me through the appropriate settings. Now my question: I will be getting a new laptop at work that I can take home. But, is there any way I can access the internet with this laptop at home?? I do have a wired connection to the router also, but I assume this will not effect connectivity. I assume it will stay say secured network and I will be unable to get on. Any suggestions? If you've defined a WEP or WPA key on the router, it only affects wireless connections. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. I'm sorry, but I don't answer questions addressed directly to me in E-mail or news groups. Microsoft Most Valuable Professional Program http://mvp.support.microsoft.com 1. If you don't remember the warless settings and don't remember the password, you may not be able to use wireless.
2. If you don't setup Mac filter, wired should works in most cases. 3. You can reset the router without calling Linksys. It will reset to the factory settings. I'm not sure if I set up Mac filtering or not. I know I can reset the router. I'm worried about how to set it up after that!!! Mel Then you can try the wired first. In most cases, people don't setup Mac filter. So it may work.

Mel Linksys has instructions on how to reset and reconfigure this router on their
web site. If you go to http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Content_C1&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1114037290855&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper and click on "Ask Linksys" you'll find information that should save you that call to their technical support line.
