Machine not found on networkmachines on the network, a laptop and 2 desktops, all running WinXP Pro, the laptop with SP2, the others with SP1. Though the issue is not with the laptop, but with one of my desktops. All 3 machines have been recently reformatted with new OS installations. One of the desktops is connected directly to my dial-up internet, and it is shared on the network. All 3 machines pick up this connection and can use it with no issues, and they can connect and disconnect it. But, the machine that has the internet connection connected to it, is not visible on the network. Neither of the other 2 machines can see it, but those 2 machines can see each other. The problem desktop cannot see the other 2 machines. I have the same version of NIC drivers on both desktops, as they both have the same model Netgear GA311 gigabit card. This is just a recent issue, as they were previously able to see each other fine, it just came up the other day where it decided that I could not see it. I had not changed any settings either. All were set to obtain an IP addresses automatically originally. Right now, the internet is still visible, but nothing else sharable, with the internet host desktop's IP set to 192.168.0.1, and the other 2 machines on dynamic IP. I am probably missing something completely or it is a simple answer, but I am fairly new to home networking, though definately not new to computers, so feel free to give me the technical details. There are several other possibilities too. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/10/irregularities-in-workgroup-visibility.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/10/irregularities-in-workgroup-visibility.html You could look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config server", and "net config workstation", from each computer, and diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!): <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#AskingForHelp> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#AskingForHelp -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
