First of all, our hose is wired with cat 5 in most rooms. However, we do
enjoy wireless when using laptops. With the location of my Linksys WRT 54G
in a back office I am having problems reaching some areas of the house. Can
I add an access point in my wife's office which is near the center of the
house? I would use a hub to split the cable and use just an access point and
not the combo router/access point that I have now. What kind of problems
might I run into with this setup? Printer sharing??
I was going to buy a range extender but I've been reading a lot of bad press
on them. And, they slow down the speed??
Thanks in advance!!

You should run into no problems whatsoever.  The access point, if configured
properly, should appear to the rest of the network like any other switch or
hub - in other words, invisible and doing its job.  ;-)
