I have a new ACER XP macnine. I have a couple of setup questions. First;
This computer will always be a stand alone computer so I would like to shut off all LAN items. Icons appear automatically that drive me nuts and I don't want them. Is there any way to run this software without the LAN part? Second; My internet connection box keeps poping up, I am in the middle of typing and it pops up , etc. etc. Is there anyway to stop this and have it pop up only when I request an internet connection? -- Jon M The pop-ups and internet connections may be due to spyware or a Trojan.
General advice: Remove the foisted Norton Antivirus, and its associated livethis and livethat. Download AVG antivirus from http://free.grisoft.com Download Firefox and use this as your browser. Don't use Internet explorer. Download Ad-Aware from http://lavasoftusa.com and scan your computer. Other useful antispyware tools are Hijack This, Spybot Search and Destroy, and the MS Malicious Software Removal Tool. No harm in running all. (but only install one memory-resident AV program)
