My workgroup was working fine with 2 XP Pro and 1 OSX systems on small lan -
with wireless router/dsl. Now I get an error every time I try to see the
computers in the workgroup:

"Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you
have access permissions.
The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available"

Yes, I am admin and have permissions. I am using Trend 06, firewall settings
have not changed from when local file sharing was working.

Checked out PChuck's website - loads of good info there. Below are my
ipconfig, netconfig and browstat info. I think the problem may lie in the
browstat... somehow something is goofy there... but how to fix it?

do a simple test. Can you ping each other by IP? If yes, can you ping it by name?

I am getting "request timed out" when pinging between the two XP systems by
IP. The router pings OK, but not the between the XP boxes. One of the XP
boxes had Windows Firewall turned on inadvertently (in addition to Trend),
but turning it off didn't change pinging.

When I turn off the firewall, they do connect... so maybe it is a firewall
issue? However, when browsing the MS Windows Network, windows explorer is
extremely slow to display the list of available computers in the workgroup.
Nearly hangs. The other system is speedy when showing the same list (this is
with both firewalls off).

Does anybody know the firewall exceptions to make for Trend w/file sharing?
Or why the list of servers would hang?

Beth,

To be useful, you need to run these diagnostics from each computer.  When
everything is working, some diagnostics might be duplicated.  In your case, you
need to see what clues you can.  Both XP Pro computers, please.  Having an OSX
system in the mix might be interesting.

Also, how about CPSServ from both XP computers.  Download PSTools (free).
