Problem plugging in a laptop to P2P LANMy P2P LAN with 2 desktops (an XP Pro SP2 and an ME) are working great using
a common workgroup name. I now have a new laptop issued by the workplace which is configured for a client-server domain (an XP Pro SP1). Obviously, the domain name and the workgroup names are different and the laptop does not see the network. If I want all 3 to network, do I have to change the workgroup name to match the domain name (since I cannot change the laptop domain configuration)? Any help is greatly appreciated! Your most likely problem here is that the laptop uses a different TCP/IP
numbering scheme. All machines must be within the same subnet in order to 'see' each other. Changing either's primary IP address would be problematic, but you can add a second IP address (in your p2p group's range) to the laptop. This shouldn't prevent it from connecting to the domain. This is under the 'Advanced' TCP/IP options. There might also be firewall-rules to take into account. Incidentally, the laptop should be able to access shared folders on the p2p network, but the reverse will not work beause the laptop's domain controller is not visible. I added an IP address (that exists in my router range setup) to the TCP/IP
Alternate setting on the laptop - rebooted and everything works GREAT!!! Thank-you very much!
