Slow Computer Browsing in Network Neighborhood - SOLUTION (I thinkupgrade to XP Pro, disable simple file sharing on all boxes, optimize your
protocol stack (if you have anything out of ordinary), and make sure the firewall is allowing file and print sharing. see post of same title on 9/8 for background... Immediately upon upgrade the browsing speed was almost instantaneous. The forced guest authentication induces delay, as does not having port 135 open by default. When you have XP Home, and a network setup correctly, the browse speed from a Pro box to a Home box is about 20 seconds. Opening port 135 brings it down to about 5 seconds. Upgrading to Pro puts it under 1 second. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
