Help, i am having trouble changing my workgroup/domain membership with
my windows xp laptop. when i go to change it, it allows me to change my
computers name, but as for the workgroup its greyed out and doesnt
allow me to click it it. It tells me that i need to install networking
in order to do that. i went to add remove programs and add remove
windows components, and added all the networking options they had.
Still no dice, any help would be great

What Group Policies are in effect?  You can not join a Domain with a XP Home
machine.  Also, you can not do both of the things youwant to do in one step.
It requires two reboots.

not trying to do both at once. only trying to change the workgroup not

With all due respect to the fact that you "added all the networking options they
had", are all necessary network components, and services, loaded and running?
