Missing connection status icon from taskbarLast night I installed the most recently downloaded Windows XP updates and since then, every time I connect to the internet the flashing 'dial-up connection status' icon is missing from my taskbar... If I go to my Network connections, it says 'disconnected', even though I am clearly connected to the internet (emails download and I can surf the web). If I chose to 'refresh' the Network connections folder the icon suddenly appears and the status changes to 'connected'. Does anyone know why this happened and how to fix it? I have checked and the box inside network properties saying 'show icon in notification area when connected' IS ticked. As I say this started after running XP updates... I use broadband, but have several older dial-up connections still saved on my computer and the same thing is happening with all of them. I also reinstalled my broadband connection but the new installion is doing the same thing. Any help/comments gratefully received! Louise Hi,
I am having a similar problem on my laptop. About 6 months ago the icons for my LAN Connection and for my wireless connection disiappeared. I was still able to connect to the internet at school and at home but now, when I open network connections, it says I have no connections. The icons do not appear at all. I have no idea how to fix this, so with Louise, I am asking for help! Please! Thank-you, Melissa Show quoteHide quote "louise898" wrote: > Hi there! > > Last night I installed the most recently downloaded Windows XP updates and > since then, every time I connect to the internet the flashing 'dial-up > connection status' icon is missing from my taskbar... For 'missing systray icons', in general, you can search Google under the latter and/or similar keywords (notification area icons, etc.). Much of this is apparently due to an unresolved Windows issue and there are some dozen or so partial solutions (my HD crashed and I lost some data so can't recover these latter for you from there). Myself, I'm posting the following here shortly: 16-Sep-06 / No Network traffic monitor icon How can I get the Network traffic monitor icon back in system tray? After the HD went south, repartitioned/reformated re-installed Win XP Pro SP2 and tried restore some of my old settings. Things back to reasonable state now except I found RAM went bad too - down from 224 to 97 MB. Win XP and 3 memory testers report RAM "OK" but left only 95 - 97 MB. Buy new when can. All works OK - except a bit slow and hanging some time in email or when multi- tasking or too many windows open. Response to left or right mouse-clicks, usually slow. Do have a lot of files in 2 of 3 partitions (only 40 GB HD, tho'). It's not the classic case of icons disappearing from sys tray / notification area. It's just this one. Sometimes it's there, sometimes not. Where does it come from, anyway? What has to be set up to show it for sure? It's not in right- click taskbar\properties\Hide...\Customize either. I used the network wizard couple, 3 times already. There's a small (8-port) hub downstairs I connect to. That goes to a small 1 or 2-port router to the line. Internet & Network access OK, as before. Anyone have this problem before? I feel blind w/o that flashing monitors icon. Is there an alternative way to monitor, w/ min resources? Appreciate any advice.
