Can't enable auto-dns detection

I'm trying to help with an existing network. A work station seems to
have some kind of dns error (e.g., it will find google but not yahoo).
The TCP/IP settings are for a fixed IP address and fixed dns addresses.
I thought I'd put it on auto-dns to see what it gets but it won't let
me. The auto-dns radio button is gray. I tried deleting the listed dns
addresses, putting it on auto-ip, and some other attempts thinking
something would get that radio button available again, but it stays
gray. Can anyone think of what can lock out auto-dns?

Thanks,
Tom

You can't use a static IP address and a dynamically assigned DNS server
address. Also, do you even have a DHCP server on this network? If so, why
use statics at all?

That's how I tried switching to auto-dns, was to first switch to
auto-IP and then I expected to see the auto-dns button enabled. Don't
know why it's set for static IP. I inherited this.

OK - I'd change it. :)

Yes. Always good to check the obvious though.

See 'DNS Resolver cache - what?' - might be relevant if it's a similar
connection.  It seems some new ISP equipment won't work properly with some
routers.

That message mentions a problem with certain router chip sets. This
router came from CyberGuard so I'll have to check with them. But the
addresses if can't find can be found from other systems on the LAN. I
think maybe some of this manual DNS is old. Don't know why someone set
it for manual in the first place.
