D-Link SecurespotI have installed the SecureSpot in my network. There are two
parts, hardware and software. The hardware was installed between my voip ta and my router. The hardware went in with only a small glitch because my modem does not support dhcp (static ip). The big issue began when I wanted to install the thin client on my winxp pro sp2 machine. No matter how I tried to install the app it always put my machine into a continuous reboot. Had to remove the software using add remove programs. I even rebuild my machine from scratch. Never installed av or fw software on this machine. This rebuilt machine had the same issues. I have talked with support and they requested that I install all MS patches (which were already installed). That's when I decided to build the machine again using a spare hd I had. Hopefully they will get back to me tomorrow. Is Securespot great or goofy? Unbelievable or ucky? Superb or stupid?
Opinions abound at the extremes,.. there are few wishy washy comments about D-Link's DS-150 Securespot. Some folks say they set it up easily, it works wonderfully, and D-link support is heavenly. Some folks say they had problems from the very beginning and it only got worse, especially when D-Link support got involved. My only experience with D-Link support was talking to people (about a DSM-520) who could barely understand me -- the two males and one female I talked to didn't speak American very well, let alone understand their product well enough to help me out. I have a home network using a cable modem supplied by the local cable company, a Netgear 11g router, with three computers wired and a wireless notebook. My main motivations for wanting the Securespot to work well are: - It should be a lot cheaper to protect four computers this way, even with the $100/yr that D-Link sorta leaves unmentioned - It ought to speed up the computers since I am supposed to be able to remove the resource-hogging anti-everything software. I wish I knew who to believe. I wish I knew how it would work on my simple home network. I suppose I'll buy the thing, create a restore point, and try installing it with crossed fingers hoping for the best,.. praying I don't have to ring up any Pakistanis to help me out. box doesn't seem all that popular, eh? Mel Mel wrote: Show quoteHide quote > Is Securespot great or goofy? Unbelievable or ucky?
